If you find yourself unable, for any reason, to file your 2009 Individual Income Tax Return by the deadline of April 15, 2010, you should request an automatic extension of time to file on Form 4868.
It is important to note that, although Form 4868 does extend the deadline for filing your taxes, it does not extend the time to pay taxes. If you do not pay the amount due by the deadline, you will owe interest and may be charged penalties.
